Thermal Gloves Selection Guide

To choose a pair of gloves with enough insulation is important so that our hands can stay warm and happy during winter.

Below are some key features of what we want from performance gloves for warmth and comfort.

Gloves

Waterproof Rating

Staying outside in cold weather, a pair of waterproof glove can keep your hands warm and dry. Waterproof fabric like DRY-TEC and GORE-TEX® are exactly what you would look for.

Developed by Montbell, DRY-TEC is a 2-ply waterproof/breathable fabric that's soft, comfortable and water-resistant, able to withstand a water column of up to 15,000mm after many times of washing.

The world renowned GORE-TEX® fabric is not to be missed when it comes to waterproof material, with its capacity to withstand a water column of up to 50,000mm, GORE-TEX® gloves guaranteed to keep your hand warm and dry.

Breathability

Every one of us has millions of sweat glands and 2/3 of them are in our palms, sometimes leaving our gloves wet and cold from perspiration. The more breathable your gloves, like those with DRY-TEC or GORE-TEX® membrane (breathability of 15,000g/m²/24hr), the better it works to allow body moisture to evaporate.

Wind Protection

Air movement will carry heat away from human body so that we feel colder in windy days than what the thermometer measures. The same effect of wind chill applies to our hands. Gloves with premium wind protection material like CLIMAPLUS®, CHAMEECE or GORE® Windstopper® block the wind so that our hands can stay protected and comfortable.

Fleece

Developed by mont-bell, a high quality outdoor equipment company from Japan, CLIMAPLUS® and CHAMEECE are quick drying and wind blocking fleece fabrics both boasting superior insulation.

Gloves made with GORE® Windstopper® fabric are totally windproof and deliver maximum breathability in cool and windy weather conditions.

Other options of windproof material include Primaloft®, which is a water resistant synthetic microfiber thermal material, also known as the best alternative to goose down for its superior insulation.

Touchscreen Compatibility

We find some gloves more convenient than the others because of their touchscreen-friendly fingertips, so that we are allowed to operate our smartphone without having to put off the gloves!
